Synchordia was formed in 2009 by Nicholas Downs and a small group of musicians who had performed together in various local ensembles over many years. The group was created in response to the decline and closure of several local music groups, with the aim of keeping community music-making alive and accessible.
Since then, Synchordia has grown into a thriving community of musicians. Alongside the main ensemble, the organisation now includes a community choir, Synchordia Singers. What began with fewer than 20 players has developed into an ensemble of over 30 musicians and a choir of up to 20 singers.
Synchordia is proud to be an inclusive and welcoming group, with members ranging in age from 7 to over 70. Whatever your age, background or level of experience, you will find a supportive and friendly environment in which to make music together.
